Filipino Fashion Designer based in Norway Mayeth Codoy is collaborating with Miss Universe Norway for the Journey of Leonora Lysglimt-Rødland to represent Norway at Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand. Miss Codoy designed both the Norwegian national costume and a collection of evening gowns for the Norwegian beauty queen. At the heart of this collaboration is Codoy’s deep commitment to sustainability and cultural heritage. Each design incorporates authentic abaca fabric, a traditional and eco-friendly material sourced from the Philippines. Through this, Codoy aims to highlight not only fashion but also the artistry, resilience, and rich heritage behind Filipino textiles. “I wanted to showcase the beauty and versatility of abaca while celebrating both Norwegian grace and Filipino creativity,” said Mayeth Codoy. “That’s why we lovingly call Miss Universe Norway Leonora as ‘Miss Abaca’ — she embodies strength, beauty, and sustainability much like the Abaca fiber.” To bring this creative vision to life, Codoy collaborated with a team of talented professionals who share her passion for artistry and empowerment. The Filipino Norwegian team are composed of: Social Media Marketing: Nica Wanderlust Photography: Karen Joy Samson Assistant Designer: Cherokee Dawn Depalobos Catwalk Coaching / Artistic Director: Sanny Gigano Interview and Q&A Coach: Luis Pedron (Filipino American based in NYC, USA) “This journey is not just mine — it’s a collaboration of passionate individuals who share one goal: to empower Miss Universe Norway and make her shine on the global stage,” Codoy added. “I am deeply grateful to my incredible team for their support, artistry, and commitment.” This international collaboration represents more than a fashion milestone — it is a cultural bridge between the Philippines and Norway to the rest of the world (the rest of the Universe rather) in celebrating creativity, sustainability, and global unity through design.
