Eighty two year old, Talisay, Batangas native, Erlinda De Leon- Cabrera, was crowned Mrs. Kalayaan 2023 at the culmination of the pageant held in Astoria, Queens, New York.
Mrs. Kalayaan and her court will be featured at this year’s Philippine Independence Day Parade and will be involved in PIDCI’s projects for the entire year. Erlinda was so elated after winning the crown and would like to thank everyone who helped her. “I am still contemplating on what endeavor I would make to make sure a lot of peopl would benefit from it, I will make sure to make a difference for a lot of our fellow Filipinos” she enthused during a brief interview.
Completing this year’s royal court are Ria Serrano- Mrs. Kalayaan Filipino-American 2023, Eliza Ortiz- Dixon- Mrs. Kalayaan Luzon 2023, Jelin Dohina- Asamoah -Mrs. Kalayaan Visayas 2023 and Emie Panganiban – Mrs. Kalayaan Mindanao 2023.
Special Awards were handed out before the coronation and the winners were: Ria Serrano:-Best in National Costume and Best in Evening Gown; Jelin Dohina Asamah- Ms. Congeniality; and Eliza Ortiz-Dixon- Ms. Photogenic.
