The 2022 New York Marathon was held last November 6, 2022. Around 50,000 participants converged for this year’s event. Filipino running enthusiasts from all parts of the globe made their presence felt. This is the biggest Filipino crowd I have seen in a decade. I have been watching every year and Pia Wurtzbach’s presence surely made gave Filipinos the motivation to line up at the Marathon route and cheer for our runners.
Filipino runners who were not running supported their kababayan along the way. The members of Pinoy Runners New York were stationed between Mile 14 and 15 while Pinoy Runners New Jersey were at Mile 17. The staff of the Philippine Consulate General were in between Mile 23 and 24 while Pinoy Runners USA were at Mile 25. They patiently cheered on the runners and handed out water and provided assistance to fellow Filipinos.
The members of the Fil-Am Press Club of New York covered the event at Mile 14 where a big Philippine Flag was being waved by a member of the runners’ organization. This attracted all the Filipino runners to stop for photos and to hydrate themselves while taking a short break
